Arundel Travel Morocco

Each week we’re going to take you around the globe and give you the hottest tips for travelling to our absolute most favourite countries! So sit back, enjoy the ride!

PS. And if you’ve visited Morocco, we’d love to hear all about it!

“Morocco is a gateway to Africa, and a country of dizzying diversity. Here you’ll find epic mountain ranges, ancient cities, sweeping deserts – and warm hospitality” – Lonely Planet

🇲🇦 MUST DO!

#1 Chefchaouen – the most beautiful small town in Morocco. Blue washed walls enclosed by mountains

#2 A 4 x 4 Atlas mountains safari, both exhilarating and breath-taking

#3 Visit the colourful souks of Marrakesh and Rabat – Morocco’s craft traditions are quirky and vibrant

#4 Spend the evening in Jemaa el-Fnaa, the magical market square in Marrakesh where at dusk it fills with Story tellers, Musicians and Acrobats

#5 One to tick of your bucket list – Visit the most complete medieval city in the Arab world – Fez

#6 Venture into the Sahara on an overnight Camel Trek

🇲🇦 BEST TIME TO VISIT

April, May, September and October are the best overall times to visit with their summer climate in the south and mountains as well as the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts.

July and August are the hottest months – great for the coastal areas.

🇲🇦 HOW TO GET THERE

Fly direct to Marrakesh and Agadir from Manchester

🇲🇦 PUBLIC TRANSPORT

The rail network is great linking the main towns of the north, the coast and Marrakesh, plus the buses and taxi’s are plentiful to take you to the smaller villages.

Car hire is also a great opportunity to see Marrakesh under your own steam.

🇲🇦 WHERE TO STAY

Great Value
Hotel Kenzi Europa – Agadir
Riad Mimouna – Essaouira

Middle of the road
Riu Tikkida Gardens, Marrakesh
Movenpick Hotel Casablanca

Go all out
La Sultana Marrakech
Kasbah Tamadot – Altas Mountains

🇲🇦 TRY AT HOME

Bastila of Fes with Chicken or Quail

Pronounced Bastila, the sweet and savoury meat pie has Andalusian-Arab origins. Slow cooked pigeon meat- although chicken is more commonly used nowadays – seasoned with a wide array of spices among which cinnamon, cardamon and black pepper. The meat mixture is wrapped in a blanket of Filo dough, baked and finally topped with crushed almonds and icing sugar.

Go on, give this tasty traditional dish it a try 🇲🇦
